Now this tip is only my personal opinion; you may find your experiences to be different. I’ve found out that when working with Amigurumi it is harder for me to use Boye brand hooks than Susan Bates hooks because of the way the hook is shaped.
I tend to work quickly and tightly and when making single crochets, my Boye hook gets caught up. Not in a dramatic way, but in a way that causes more effort in pulling the hook through the stitches, than does my Susan Bates hook.
With my Susan Bates hook, working through stitches seems seamless. No extra effort needed. When comparing these two side by side-I was able to tell right away what the problem was.
See the way the Boye hook (the one on the left) is shaped like a cone? Well, the bottom of that "cone" is what snags and causes me to have to put that little extra twist into getting my stitches.
The Susan Bates hook is shaped at a very sharp slope (picture below)-which makes slipping in and out of stitches very easy and quick, with no hang ups!
